John 13:34-35 (ERV) “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other just as I love you. (35) All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”
First and foremost, we must learn to care for one another.
Jesus, the greatest being who walked the face of the earth, equipped himself with a towel, bowed down toward the ground and washed the
feet of His followers. Get this. Here is the Majestic Ruler of all Humanity, the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Rose of Sharon, Ezekiel’s Wheel in the Middle of a Wheel, Job’s Horse pawing in the Valley, prostrating himself down in front of the hardened, dusty, possibly odorous feet of the men who followed Him!
Secondly, to help heal our world, Jesus’ command for us to love one another means we must learn to respect one another.
The internet dictionary defines respect as “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements.”
Finally, if we are going to heal this nation, we have to understand that Jesus’s command to love included learning to forgive one another.
The greatest being that ever walked the earth healed the ear of a soldier that arrested him; extended another chance to the disciple that deserted him; and endured wounds, bruises and death for a world that rejected him
